New Kid On The Block!!!!

This is the AMAZING Willow Smith

Daughter of Will Smith you would immediately think, here we go again, another kid of a famous person using mum or dads fame to make something of themselves, but after watching this video that trend of thought is immediately thrown out of the window.

Miss Smiths new song Whip My Hair is a combination of attitude, style, talent and originality.
You never believe a 9 year old would be able to carry off such attitude so well, it seems to come so natural and is a blast of fresh air in this new musical trend of child stars. She combines all the different elements of performing so well that you forget her age and really appreciate her talent.

She has a strong and unique voice which makes her stand out from all the young singers which makes you sit up and pay attention. Because she can sing you take the time to see all of the different elements which make her so special.

Her styling is just right. They haven't tried to dress her so she looks 21, they have used bold colour and shapes to keep her young and fun but accessorised with army style boots and animal prints to keep her on trend. My favourite looks are her yellow play suit with studded belt and small studded detail on the shoulder, also her very first look in the video, the blue sleeveless jacket with orange harem trousers and knee high ( i know sound a bit weird ) black and white stripped boots. These two looks are fun and a good play on the adult equivalent, she has so much attitude and presence that it all works so well. Plus her heart hair at the start is amazing, only she can pull that look off because of her age and attitude. The attention to detail is key as well, her nails are all accessorised to the max at the start and there is always a hint of metal in each look which pulls all the looks together.

This song and video have really got my creative juices flowing and definitely feel the attitude and boldness will be apart of my new collection. To have so much energy and attitude makes such a difference and adds another level to any work

The song is really good, with a strong beat and catchy lyrics you cant but whip your hair!!!
Everything about Willow Smith is insane, her voice, her look and her attitude, cant wait to see what she brings out next.

watch her video on youtube or at www.willowsmith.com
she is also on myspace - www.myspace.com/willowsmith

Enjoy it and Whip you hair!!!

The Collection accessories and samples

These images are of my accessories for my final collection plus some images of the samples which lead me to the final outcome of my collection.

Through my sampling i learned that i want to make each accessory and sample unique and different, i didn't want any sample to be the same but still have the same clash, fun and energy.

Very time consuming but all worth it!!!!

The Collection!!! close up

The Collection!!! in London town!!!!

This is the collection!!!! After 3 years of building up to this moment it came and went in a flash!!! The whole day was amazing!!!! The thrill of dressing everyone's collections and seeing it on professional model made me see my collection in a new light. I cant believe it walked in London and never thought it would!!!!

The whole of 3rd fashion textiles and fashion where of a very high standard and any of us could have gone!!! Waiting for the list with the 15 names on it was a crazy wait, but the moment we got told it was up the tension went through the roof. I saw my name and a massive amount of emotion went through me ; excitement, disbelief, doubt, anxiety and so many more i cant write them all down because we would be here all day!!!

My first thought was " am i good enough?" There were and still are amazing designers in 3rd year and i couldn't quite believe i had been given this huge honour. I still dont know if i am but i knew i had to embrace the experience and enjoy the it!!!

These images are from catwalking.com.
I still look at them now and think wow i did it, not just making it to London but making through such a difficult year! I also want to thank all my fellow designers, wait I mean closest friends for helping me through the year as i couldn't have done it without any of your help and support. Thank you

the info behind the collection!!! - line ups should be fun, if not fun gaga!!!!

My muses for this collection was Anna Piaggi and Lady Gaga. I choose Piaggi because of her fearless use of colour, print and accessorising. She has been around the fashion industry for a long time so has learned, down to a tee, how to mix and match lots of different colour and prints and at the same time keeping if very cool. She isn't afraid to wear what she wants and because of her knowledge knows what to wear. These are attributes I took from Piaggi.

My other muse was Lady Gaga. I choose Gaga because of her ability to shock people with her clothing. Because of her age she is not afraid to show more flesh, wear interesting and thought provoking clothes and push test peoples tolerance. I took her fearlessness of making a statement through to my collection because i want the person wearing my clothing to have an identity and make people think about what they see, whether they like it or not i want then to think about it.

For my line up illustrations i used Gaga as my base and through tracing, scanning and photoshop put my garments on her. I wanted you to view my pieces as if they were being worn for real. If it looks like they are meant to be there then I have done my job well plus i also wanted to see what my work could potential be like.

The ones i have pulled out are the ones i like the most because they have worked the best and make the most excited about my work!!!

The info behind the collection!!! - lets toile big!!!

From using the half scale mannequin I transferred it to life size. I quickly learnt that i had to drape to create the shapes i wanted. Doing half scale resulted in being a very fiddle process and would mean transferring all the info to big which in the very short amount of time we had would have resulted in me not having a collection!!! So good idea going big!!! I also developed a tag system which meant that i could quickly put my patterns together without getting too confused!!! ( i can be very easily confused!!! ) The notches where colour co-ordinated, this made it alot quicker and much more fun to look at my insane patterns!!!

I have only selected a few of pages, i thought i would give you the best!!!
If you would like to see more then feel free to email i am very happy to share the madness!!!

The info behind the collection!!! - toile development

As stated before I used the coast line to inspire my silhouette and shape. I cut up images and then used a half scaled mannequin to explore the different starting points for garments. I also used created the shapes looking at the images and using the shapes cut out. I used the textures of the rocks to help inform ratio of embellishment to print and plain fabric.

The info behind the collection!!! - knit develpoment

These pages show the steps i took to create the designs for my knitwear. I used the dancers silhouettes, using all the different shapes pulled from the image to create many different prints. each print is named after the dancer it came from, which is how tell each look when designing. This was a much more fun way of doing things rather than say look1, look2!!!

The info behind the collection!!! - The inspirtation

These are the beginning points for my final collection
The Freestyle Disco dancing world is a big apart of my life. Every aspect of it excites me, from the competing to the music to the costumes, all of these aspects come together to create a world of high pace, extreme beats and beautiful costumes. I took the bold colours, body con outfits and the energy of this world through to my collection. I wanted to create a collection which captured the essence of it all.

In the summer before the start of uni I went away to work for my auntie and uncle in Lawrenny, Wales. On my day off I went to Saundersfoot, a beach i have been going to ever since i was born. I spent the afternoon and evening walking round the coast when it dawned on me what i was missing from my previous project which began this whole collection. Structure. In my last project of 2nd year I didn't have a very considered silhouette. The rocks and stones where the perfect idea, it would allow me to create bold shapes and forms.

I wanted to pull together two completely different starting points because there would be no overlap of idea and each would push the other so that they could create something unique. The rocks where also there to counter the effects of the knit. Knit still has this "nanny" quality about it and I wanted to push away from woolly jumpers and knitted hats and bring some bold colours and exciting prints.

My Work!

This is a picture of my work which i used for our look book for uni!!! I wanted to show the different textures, colours and details i am using through out my collection!!!

I have put the textures in a certain order to represent how they will be in each garment!!!

My work is very bold and extravagant! I have said that vulgarity is the way, so some people will like and some wont, Im happy with what i am creating because I feel that finally I am making garments and textures i really am interested in and represent what I am all about right now in my life!

These two images are of more textures i am creating through using beads, gems, chains, swarovski flat back stones, and my own print.

Fumie Sasabuchi

While doing interviews for our new 1st years I came across this photo shoot by Fumi Sasabuchi!!! I couldnt quite believe what I saw, so had an other look and was really surprised with the detail and beauty of the work!!! The idea of bringing the inside outside and creating artwork on the body to question the idea of beauty in a fashion magazine really excited me. Not many people would like this, but alongside all things shinny I do have a soft spot for anything dark, disturbing and a lil bit gross!!!
